Best Mobile Phones of 2008

Nokia E71

The Nokia E71 is the first . This phone has been praised by all, not just for its functionality but also for its style and looks. People would hardly look at a QWERTY keypad phone as a style phone but this handset from Nokia has changed that. The Nokia E71 has little wrong with it except for its missing Blackberry Connect, which no Nokia phone will provide henceforth. Large screen, powerful, seamless usability, connectivity and sufficient multimedia features all make the Nokia E71 the best phone. If you thought the E61i from Nokia couldn t get any better, take a look at the E71. However, I still prefer the E61i over the E71.

Blackberry Bold

The Blackberry Bold, which comes in next, has changed the whole outlook of RIM and has done so convincingly. This handset s Business and Multimedia package is a perfect merger of work and play. We all know of the capabilities and productivity of Blackberry phones. The Blackberry Bold is a great-looking handset, having great flaunt-value and is a class apart. It has everything that s expected from a phone of its calibre, except for a poor image capturing optic, which shouldn t really matter.

The phone has great video capabilities; any image or video looks good on its high-res large screen. The phone has DivX and XviD capabilities. The Bold has a powerful processor under its hood that can execute most of the mobile tasks that you would want your phone to do. The Blackberry Bold is steeply priced but it s not for nothing, the power it exudes in the little package is amazing.

Apple iPhone 3G

Speaking of packages nothing comes even close to the iPhone 3G that launched in India this year. The iPhone is not just about superb interface and multi-touch but its iTunes and App store lets you enjoy a wholesome experience. The inbuilt memory of the iPhone comes as a plus point to store lots of media and enjoy it while on the move.

Some of the basics that were left out and were a cause of concern can now be fixed with several of those apps created. The phone is more like a platform for developers to harness and the public to enjoy. Style comes along with its popularity, thanks to Apple s marketing team. Another reason for the marketing team to feel proud is the sales figures of the phones, which are running past many mobile manufacturers numbers. Three cheers to the iPhone 3G!

Samsung INNOV8 i8510

The Samsung INNOV8 is seriously an INNOV8ive mobile device. I would go to the extent of saying that it is this year s Nokia N95 8GB. The Nokia N95 8GB till date is the best buy and my recommendation to anyone who has the budget. The INNOV8 is not a style phone but a convergence device. It costs an arm and will definitely not appeal to all. Practically speaking, a digicam, PMP and a phone separately would do all for the kind of dough you d spend on this one. The very fact that it can do all of it pretty decently is an achievement in itself. Samsung with this handset has proved that it is out to capture Nokia s market share.

HTC Touch Diamond

The HTC Touch Diamond has earned its respect but has done so recently. The phone when launched was sluggish and got thrashed for not living up to the hype. But after that the phone was sent back to the RND department and the new firmware did the magic. The phone now works smooth and is really a great handset. This phone has shown what we can expect from not just HTC with its TouchFLO 3D but also Windows Mobile. With Windows Mobile 6.5 just round the corner and 7 to release later next year, the possibilities are endless. HTC Touch Diamond is the first Windows Mobile 6.1 mobile to release and given its initial downslide, HTC has worked on it to gain a spot as the best among the other mobile phones mentioned in this article.

Motorola ZINE ZN5

The Motorola ZINE ZN5 is another phone that finds a place in this list. It s not the best 5MP shooter available in the market but it s good in its own way. The camera is quick and thanks to all the Kodak algorithms, it captures images well and easily without taxing the user s capabilities. The phone is also a good multimedia device with good sound quality and image sharing. The ZINE ZN5 has Wi-Fi, which provides one with quick connectivity, something that also adds to its speciality. However, its incompetency to multitask is like a speed breaker in the phone.

Closing comments of 2008

We have come to the end of this year that has seen lots happening in the mobile industry; be it the number phones that were released or the cell phone technology popularity. But I can say with conviction that the biggest thing that happened was the launch of 3G service, which gives us a glimpse of the bright 2009 in the mobile industry.
