How to enjoy Chatting on your network with WinChat ?

Press win + r to open the run tab.

Then type winchat.

Now go to Conversation Menu and click dial option.

Here choose that person you want to chat with on your network

When you click on dial then you will get a list of the persons with whom you are going to connect on your network even if they are running winchat or not.

If you dial any body of your list they are not responding or ignoring you, then they may not be running the winchat.

When any body is running winchat he will hear a ringing sound.

Both you and your network sharing person can chat with each other when your recipient clicks the answer button.

How to take the Image of Only Active Window using Print Screen?

When you use the print screen command in Windows, it takes the image of the whole screen.

If you want to display only a particular portion of that image, you have to use an image editing tool (like MS Paint) to crop.

In case you wanted to take the image of only the active window, you can just use Alt + Print Screen (prt Scr) to take the image of the active windows alone.

[How to] Run XP Inside Vista

FOLLOW THE BELOW STEPS:

* Download and install Virtual PC.

* Launch it, click Next to start the wizard, and click Next again to create a virtual machine.

The wizard then asks you to confirm the amount of memory and disk space to dedicate to the virtual machine. If you have 2GB or more on your host PC, give 512MB to the virtual XP machine. Unless you plan to install lots of apps, the default hard disk size is usually fine.

* Click Next and then finish, and your virtual machine will appear in the virtual PC Console.

* Insert an XP Installation CD, and then double click the virtual-machine icon in the Virtual PC Console to start it up.

* Select the optical drive in the Virtual C’s CD menu, choose Action, and then click Ctrl-Alt-Del to boot the virtual machine from the CD.

After that, the installation process should proceed just as it would on a non-virtual PC.

To Run your virtual XP machine

* Select it in the Virtual PC Console and click Start.
* To close it down, click Close, choose Save state from the list of options, and click OK.
* Clicking within the virtualized OS Window once allows it to capture the mouse pointer.

Importable Features

In the Virtual PC menu, click Action * Install or Update Virtual Machine Additions to install several tools that will allow you to copy and paste text between the virtual machine and the host PC. You will also be able to send documents back and forth via a shared folder on the host system.To get the mouse pointer to release back to the host OS, press the right-hand key and drag the mouse out of the Virtual PC window.

How to create custom keyboard shortcut to open any application?

Step 1:
Make a shortcut for the application . Create the shortcut, right-click the program file and then click Create Shortcut to create one. If the shortcut is being made in the desktop, move it to a folder under ‘My Documents’.

Step 2:
Right-click the shortcut and click Properties.

Step 3:
Click the Shortcut tab and under that you will find Shortcut Key box.

Step 4:
If no keyboard shortcut is being assigned then it will display none. All shortcut keys are used in a combination with CTRL + ALT. So, select another key along with CTRL + ALT and click OK.

Step 5:
Now, you can use this keyboard shortcut to open that application when you are using the desktop or any other application.

This is applicable for both in Windows XP and Windows Vista.

If you are a fan of Linux, you must be familiar with multiple desktops which come by default. These multiple desktops are very useful to manage the sessions you work at any time. Recently, I installed Yet anOther Desktop Manager 3D (Yeah that’s the actual name of the software). Yod’m 3D, is very light weight software which allows you to have four desktops. You can make this software to load every time Windows starts or you can activate it only when you needed. This software works in Windows 2000, XP and Vista.

How to use it?

Use Ctrl+Shift+Left/Right keys to move to Next/Prev Desktop.

Use Ctrl+Shift+Up Keys to show a ‘far’ view of the current desktop. Use Left or Right Arrows to move around.

Use Ctrl+Shift+Down Keys to show a ‘near’ view of the current desktop.

Use Left or Right Arrows to move around.

You can also use your mouse to turn the desktop cubes by holding Ctrl+Shift

How to move a Window to another desktop?

Sometimes only after opening couple of sites you feel that you should have opened this in another desktop. It doesn’t matter as you can move windows by shortcut keys.

Click on the Title Bar of the window and while keep holding press Ctrl+Shift.
Use the Left or Right arrows to move it to another desktop and release all the keys.

Wallpapers:

You can different use wallpapers in each of the desktop. Just use the windows option to change the wallpapers.

Easy Access:

If you are not sure in which desktop you have a particular application, just click the Yod’m 3D symbol in the task bar and it will list down all the application in other desktops. You can click them to directly move to that application.

Hibernate Shortcut on Desktop in WinXP

This is a nice trick to make a shortcut for Hibernate in Windows. It’s an interesting feature in WIndows, once activated,we don’t have to start booting process from the begining when we are trying to start/open our computer. With this feature, we will be reverted back to our last openend position.

Now, how to activate hibernate Hibernate???

We can start with the Turn Off Computer menu and push Shift and click the Hibernate menu.

But, for advancing the hibernate proces, we can make a shortcut.

The steps are:

1. Right Click on Desktop

2. Choose NEW - SHORTCUT menu

3. In the part of TYPE OF LOCATION OF THE ITEM fill with the following:

Protect Pen Drives from Viruses :)

Viruses in pen drives !!! It has been as common as the sun rising in the east :) And how annoying is that... So here are two ways to deny access to viruses to your pen drives.

1. Make Use of Software Restriction Policy

Use software restriction policy in group policy. You can restrict the access of all the programs or executable files in USB pen drive through this policy.

When you want to access the executable files you are sure of no harm, you can turn off the restriction. This is a wonderful way to protect your pen drive from viruses.

2. Force Folder

Use the "Force Folder" feature in Sandboxie. This feature will make all the program / executable files in the folder you have chosen to run in Sandbox.

For example, the drive of your USB pendrive in your computer is H:. Then you can set H: as force folder, and all the programs in H drive will be run in Sandbox.

Customized Icon for USB sticks & CD drives

Are you fed up of the same default icon of your removable drives again and again? How about a new icon to impress the fellas? Here's how you do it:

• First of all get a suitable icon to replace the removable drive. Be sure that it has an .ico for extension.

• Next open the Notepad and type in what is provided below

• Label is the text that you want to display in My computer when the drive is connected and Icon denotes the name of the icon image. here the label is trick and icon image name is MyIcon. Save the file as autorun.inf.

• Copy both the files (Icon file and autorun.inf) in the removable drive. Make the files hidden so that they don't reappear whenever the drive is connected.

• Remove the external drive and connect it back to the USB.

There you are, look at the customization of your removable drive. Isn't that great!

NOTE: In case you don't find a .ico file , I have a way out. Download the ImageIcon software. Using this graphics utility you can convert the multiple image files into JPG, PNG or BMP image formats into .ico extension

REMEMBER: The same procedure applies for CDs & DVDs too.

[HOW TO] Remove virus from USB drives ?

The most common way by which a virus can infect your PC is through USB/Pen drives. Common viruses such as 'Ravmon’ , ‘New Folder.exe’, ‘Orkut is banned’ etc are spreading through USB drives. Most anti virus programs are unable to detect them and even if they do, in most cases they are unable to delete the file, only quarantine it. Here are the things which you can do if you want to remove such viruses from your USB Drive

Whenever you plug a USB drive in your system, a window will appear similar to the one shown below


Don’t click on Ok , just choose ‘Cancel’.

Open the Command Prompt by typing ‘cmd‘ in the run box.

In the command prompt type the drive letter: and press enter .

Now type dir /w/a and press enter.

This will display a list of the files in the pen drive.
Check whether the following files are there or not

Autorun.inf
Ravmon.exe
New Folder.exe
svchost.exe
Heap41a
or any other exe file which may be suspicious.

If any of the above files are there, then probably the USB drive is infected.

In command prompt type attrib -r -a -s -h *.* and press enter.

This will remove the Read Only, Archive, System and hidden file attribute from all the files. Now just delete the files using the command del filename. example del Ravmon.exe.

Delete all the files that are suspicious. To be on a safer side, just scan the USB drive with an anti virus program to check whether it is free of virus or not.

Now remove the drive and plug it again. In most of the cases, the real culprit turns out to be the “Autorun.inf” file which mostly gets executed when someone clicks Ok in the dialog window which appears above. Thus the infections can spread

Folder option Missing..!!!

Open Run and then type "gpedit.msc".

Now goto

User Configuration > Administrative templates > Windows Component > Windows Explorer.

Click on Windows Explorer, you will find the 3rd option on the right side of screen "Removes the Folder Option menu item from the Tools menu"

Just check it, if it is not configured then change it to enable by double clicking on it and after applying again set it to not configured.

I hope that you will find the option after restarting windows.

Customized Folder Lock Of Your Own...

Windows makes every thing too personal to be comfortable sometimes. So, is there a way to make your private information really private?

Trick

1.Suppose you have a folder named xyz in D:\xyz

2.In the same drive next to the folder create a new notepad file with the exact statement

ren xyz xyz.{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D}







3.Now save this text file as loc.bat

4.Create another notepad file and type

ren xyz.{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D} xyz




5.Save this as key.bat

6.Now there are two batch files . Double click loc.bat and your folder will change into Control Panel and the contents inside the folder will not be obtainable simply.

7.To open the folder double click key.bat and you get back your original folder .

8. If you want, keep the file key.bat at some other place. Whenever you need to access that folder just copy and paste the file at the previous location and double click.

Isn't it simple but effective?

Add 'Copy To And Move To ' Function in XP

A hidden functionality in Windows allows you to right click on a file, select Copy To Folder or Move To Folder, and the move to box will pop up and let you choose a location to either copy or move the file or folder to.

Update: Downloadable version also available.

Here's the quick registry hack to get this working. As usual, back up your registry just in case. You will want to browse down to this key:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AllFilesystemObjects\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers

Once you are at that key, right click and choose the New Key option:

Now you will double-click on the (Default) value and enter the following:

{C2FBB630-2971-11D1-A18C-00C04FD75D13}

Click OK and continue.

If you want to enable Move To, you will repeat the same steps, except creating a new key named Move To, and using this value:

{C2FBB631-2971-11D1-A18C-00C04FD75D13}

Now when you right click on a file or folder, you should see the following options:

Let's click Copy To Folder just to see what happens….
